Jesus Prayed For You

Here’s a summary of this week’s sermon:

  • Sherlon is a secondary school RE teacher. He says that he was recently discussing the story of Abraham with his students. The keyword in the story was trust, and this made him think about how important it is for Christians to see things from Jesus' perspective.

  • In John 16:33, Jesus says that peace comes from knowing that He is in control.

  • In John 17, Jesus prays for His disciples (which includes us). He prays for protection, glory, and power.

  • He says, “God wants us to know that we are family. We belong to God, and he belongs to us. And if we live and act as family, we will be successful in this life, irrespective of what circumstances life may throw at us.

💬 CONVERSATION STREET --

Matt + Sadaf talk about this and more, such as what did Jesus pray for you and for me and other surprising prayers.

  • In John 17:21, Jesus makes this prayer, “that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” What does he mean?

  • What does Unity look like to you?

  • There is unity in the Godhead - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. How would it be if there were no competition between us and we would all submit to each other?

  • Is it fair to say, “We can disagree without making it a war and understand and accept that we all have a slightly different perspective much like the Trinity working together for the same purpose”?

  • What can we glean from Jesus’ covenant statement, “All I have is yours and all you have is mine”?

  • How is Jesus’ statement, “My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.” contradictory to the prayers we make when going through tough times?

  • Is it true that quite often God doesn’t deliver us out of a situation but through it?
